It’s time for you to get married.

With vaccinations in arms, the pandemic integrated into our daily lives and borders reopening, it’s time to fulfill that pre-pandemic promise you made to your significant other and tie the knot. Considering you had more than a year to stockpile your reserves, you can really compensate for all that lost time and have a destination wedding.

The facts

According to a study conducted by The Knot, in 2020, 96% of couples were forced or opted to change their wedding plans with 7% cancelling their plans completely. The wedding planning site, Simply Eloped, is reporting their strongest booking period ever. This no doubt is due to couples opting for a scaled-down version of their nuptials. Condor Ferries in the United Kingdom reports that there are 350,000 destination weddings performed every year.

I spoke to Mr. Glenn Ferguson, a wedding planner and officiant in Nassau, Bahamas (bahamasweddingpackage.com). Mr. Ferguson concurs that there was a significant decrease in the number of destination weddings in 2020, but with the recent relaxation of travel restrictions and increase in vaccinations, he anticipates those delayed weddings will soon return. Mr. Ferguson’s comments align with the aforementioned studies as he informed me that a number of couples who found themselves stranded in the Bahamas at the start of the pandemic, decided to get married while the borders were closed. This was a blessing for him as he considers himself an “eloping specialist”. Mr. Ferguson stated that his Elopement package starts at $925 (USD/BHD) and can be configured to just under $20,000 (USD/BHD). He can provide everything from witnesses to guests and all of the necessary permits.

Over at the Atlantis resort on Paradise Island, they report that their wedding packages start at $2,400 (USD/BHD) which includes a selected location for the ceremony, the officiant, one hour of photos and a wedding album; all the way up to $28, 900 (USD/BHD) and includes a 5 night accommodation in an ocean view suite, hair and makeup services, 6 hours of photography and couples massage just to name a few.

So whatever your preference or budget, destination weddings are extremely affordable and configurable. What better way to show that special someone how thoughtful and romantic you are.
